Commercial pilots who’re just entering the field often need to continue accruing flight time as they pursue career goals. To apply with an airline, for example, pilots need 1,500 flight hours in the bank. Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) make a living while banking that flight time, perfecting their skills, and doing what they love.

Three different types of flight instructor certifications are available: Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).

How to Become a Certified Flight Instructor

• Earn a Commercial Single-Engine License (CSEL), Commercial Multi-Engine License (CMEL), or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP)
• Earn the matching category and class rating for the instructor rating desired
• Have an FAA 3rd Class Medical Certificate, minimum
• Be at least 18 years old
• Speak, read, write, and comprehend English well
• Document a minimum of 15 hours as the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of the category and class of aircraft parallel to the rating desired
• Prove instructional ability and earn an endorsement in stall awareness, spin entry, spins, and spin recovery
• Pass the written evaluations required by the FAA
• Pass the checkride – verbal and practical components administered by an FAA evaluator

Some things come standard with Paragon Flight, including excellent practice aircraft, flight instructors, and curriculum. Every aircraft within our fleet is well-kept, new, and the standard for flight training. This fleet includes the Piper P28 “Pilot,” the PA44 Seminole, the Cirrus SR20, and the ALSIM AL172 Flight Simulator. All of your practice hours will be in aircraft that qualify as Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) for licensing and training purposes.
