Student Pilot Certificate

This is your entry point into aviation. The student pilot certificate allows you to begin flight training and eventually fly solo under the supervision of an instructor.

Key Points:

• No minimum flight hours required to receive the certificate
• Must be at least 16 years old (14 for gliders)
• Requires an FAA medical certificate
• Solo flight privileges only with instructor endorsement
• Cannot carry passengers

Private Pilot License (PPL)

The most common license for recreational pilots or those starting a professional path, the PPL allows you to fly single-engine aircraft and carry passengers, but not for hire.

• Must be at least 17 years old
• Pass the FAA written knowledge test and checkride

Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

This credential allows you to fly for compensation or hire, making it essential for pilots seeking employment with charter companies, airlines, corporate flight departments, or cargo carriers.

• Minimum of 250 total flight hours
• Includes day/night cross-country and complex aircraft experience
• Requires advanced maneuvers and systems training
• Must hold at least a Second-Class Medical Certificate

Paragon’s Professional Pilot Program (P3) is designed to help students earn their CPL and prepare for career entry in just 10 months.

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII/MEI)

Teach others how to fly while building flight hours toward ATP requirements, a common and practical next step after earning your CPL.

• CFI: Teaches basic flight
• CFII: Teaches instrument flight
• MEI: Teaches multi-engine operations
• Instructors are compensated and gain valuable experience

• Demonstrates expert-level skill and knowledge
