Private Pilot License versus Commercial Pilot License

A Private Pilot License (PPL) is the initial stepping stone for all aviators. Whether you plan to fly for yourself and your family or make a living as a pilot, you’ll begin with this credential. However, if you desire to accept payment for your actions in the cockpit, you must level up to a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

We offer many courses to meet all pilot candidates’ needs. As a FAR Part 141 and Part 61 authorized flight school, Paragon Flight can provide full-time, well-structured programs and one-on-one, flexible arrangements. The P3 Professional Pilot Program is especially designed for motivated pilots who want to save time and money. We prioritize quality training over quantity, guiding students toward the ideal financial resources and helping them develop essential professional qualities.

Timeline of the P3 Professional Pilot Program:

• 0-10 Weeks – Private Pilot License (PPL) – foundational level for all aviation training, permits pilots to fly a single-engine plane, non-commercially, during clear conditions;

• 11-18 Weeks – Instrument Flight Rating (IFR) – trains pilots to fly utilizing navigation and communication equipment;

• 19-30 Weeks – Commercial License, Single and Multi-Engine (CSEL and CMEL) – permits pilots to fly single-engine and multi-engine aircraft, respectively, on a commercial basis;

• 31-38 Weeks – Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) – provides pilots with certification to act as a flight instructor for private pilot licensing. This role is an excellent entry point for commercial pilots, allowing them to hone their skills, share their passion, make a living, and accrue flight hours for future applications.

Prerequisites of Participation in the P3 Program:

• 18 years of age, minimum
• High school diploma or GED equivalency
• One personal and one professional character reference
• Clear MVR, Motor Vehicle Record
• Clear FAA record
• Clear criminal background check
• Passed behavioral/cognitive assessment
• FAA 1st Class Medical Certificate
• Proficiently fluent and literate in the English language
• Full-time availability to participate in 4-5 flight lessons and 10-20 hours of ground instruction each week
• Professional characteristics of integrity, drive, and a strong work ethic.
