Commercial Pilot Training Requirements – Part 141 Programs

A commercial license under a Part 141 program requires at least 190 hours of logged flight time, compared to the 250 hours required under Part 61. The required hours are broken down into the following categories:

  • Cross-Country Flight – 10 hours minimum with at least one being 300 nautical miles or more, with landing stops at three different airports
  • Night Flight – 10 hours minimum, with at least 5 hours of night flight training and one cross-country night flight at least 100 nautical miles
  • Total Hours – 190 hours, including 100 as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and 50 of cross-country flight.

Commercial pilots must also pass a written knowledge test designed to evaluate a candidate’s understanding of aerodynamics, weather, navigation, regulations, and flight operations.

The check ride will be the ultimate evaluation. Administered by an FAA examiner, this test includes both a verbal and practical component, requiring candidates to demonstrate ability and understanding of commercial operations.

At Paragon Flight, candidates can participate in Part 141 and Part 61 training programs. Whether you require the structure mandated by Part 141 courses or the flexibility of a Part 61 course, count on our team to reliably provide quality flight training.
