Switching Flight Schools Partway Through PPL Training
Are you disappointed in your flight school experience and considering switching flight schools partway through PPL training? If so, reach out to Paragon Flight for an unforgettable experience that will lead you to aviation success. We’ll help you pick up without losing much time, and we’ll surpass all of your expectations.
Changing Flight Schools
Plans change, and it should be no surprise that student pilots often need a change in flight schools. Whether they need a new location due to travel demands, scheduling, instructor issues, financial concerns, or simply the desire for a better provider, you must prioritize finding a great flight school as a replacement that will consider what you’ve already covered and tailor a plan to suit your individual goals.
Transferring Training
When you change flight schools, you should be able to transfer most of your training – the flight time, ground instruction, and solo experiences. If it’s in your logbook, that experience will follow you from one FAA-credentialed school to another.
Once you’ve logged flight hours, they will count toward the total required. However, remember that Part 141 and Part 61 programs may have different hour requirements for your training, so that the transition may lead to a more extended training period.
Endorsements added to a license are valid once the FAA has verified them, and they won’t be removed but may require updating.
Written tests are also valid, and your FAA written exam results will be usable for 24 months to complete your checkride and apply for your license.
Paragon Flight operates under both Part 141 and Part 61 guidelines, so we can accommodate almost every student, helping avoid repetition or unnecessary flight time, even when students transition into our programs.
How to Transfer Flight Schools
- Request a copy of your training records from your current flight training institution. Ensure the record includes all progress reports, evaluations, and endorsements.
- Verify the accuracy and recency of your logbook so that you don’t lose any flight hours.
- Find a new flight school – interview prospects, schedule a Discovery Flight, and review a plan for your aviation training. A good school, like Paragon Flight, can tailor a plan around your current skills, schedule, and goals.
- Leave on a positive note. Be sure when leaving the current flight school that you burn no bridges. You may need a reference or a record verification at some point.
The Potential for Delayed Training
When leaving a flight school for another, you can run the risk of delaying your training, but you probably won’t, especially if you have quality records and keep your skills up. Try to keep the gap time between training as small as possible to avoid learning loss, which will lead to additional lessons being needed.
