Private Pilot versus Commercial Pilot License
When you begin to fly, you’ll likely pursue a private pilot certificate. The training is sufficient to allow pilots to use controlled towers and participate in night flight. However, if you’d like to take the step to begin earning a living performing aviation services, you must possess a valid commercial pilot license.
After gaining your initial commercial license, you can earn qualifications to fly while teaching as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII). To continue on to work for an airline as the pilot of a jet or airbus, you will follow up with training as an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) paired with a minimum of 1,500 hours in the air.
Checklist for Earning a Commercial Pilot License
