Georgia Flight Schools Offering Multi-Engine Add-On Training
For pilots in Georgia pursuing their Commercial Multi-Engine Land (CMEL) certification, Paragon Flight offers immersive Multi-Engine Add-On training in advanced aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and critical control techniques.
The Importance of Multi-Engine Training

Flying multi-engine aircraft—capable of cruising 30–50% faster than single-engine planes—requires advanced skills and profound system knowledge. An engine failure can reduce total power by up to 50% and cause asymmetrical thrust, making the aircraft yaw toward the inoperative engine. Since engine failures are a leading cause of emergencies, pilots must master precise rudder and power management to maintain control and ensure safety.
This training is essential for commercial pilots who want to expand their career opportunities and is a mandatory step toward obtaining the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, the highest level of pilot certification and a requirement for airline captains.
Earn Your Multi-Engine Rating at Paragon Flight
Paragon offers two multi-engine add-on pathways to equip pilots with the skills and confidence to operate multi-engine aircraft safely and effectively. Training is delivered through personalized, one-on-one instruction, allowing each pilot to progress at a pace aligned with their experience level and individual goals.
The Multi-Engine Add-On Program is ideal for pilots who already meet the prerequisites and want to earn their multi-engine rating quickly. It includes 11–15 flight hours in a multi-engine aircraft and 5 hours of ground instruction and can be completed in as little as one week.
For those who need additional training time or have not yet met all prerequisites, the Multi-Engine Initial Program offers a more in-depth path, with 35 flight hours and 10 hours of ground instruction.
Both programs thoroughly cover key topics, including:
- Multi-engine aerodynamics
- Aircraft systems and performance
- Emergency procedures, including engine-out operations
- Normal and emergency flight operations
- Takeoffs, landings, and maneuvering in multi-engine aircraft
- Systems management and performance planning
Students receive extensive instruction in standard operations and critical scenarios, such as “one engine inoperative” (OEI) flight, and conclude with a 1.5-hour FAA practical checkride administered by a designated examiner. While no separate written exam is required for the add-on rating, ground knowledge is thoroughly evaluated during the oral portion of the checkride.
Upon successful completion, the CMEL rating is added to the pilot’s certificate, officially qualifying them to operate multi-engine aircraft in commercial or professional aviation environments.
Train Smarter at LGC
Paragon Flight’s LaGrange-Callaway Airport (LGC) campus is especially well-suited for multi-engine add-on training, offering:
- Modern, Multi-Engine Aircraft
Students train in the Piper PA-44 Seminole, a twin-engine trainer renowned for its predictable handling and straightforward systems. Equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin G1000 NXi avionics and GFC700 autopilot systems, students gain valuable experience with industry technology.
- Long, Well-Maintained Runways
Multi-engine aircraft typically require longer runways, especially during training scenarios such as simulated engine failures or OEI operations. The 6,499-foot primary runway provides ample space for safe takeoffs, landings, and emergency procedures.
- Instrument Approach Capabilities (ILS, VOR, GPS)
These navigational aids allow for comprehensive training under various conditions, including instrument flight rules (IFR). This is essential for commercial pilots who need to master multi-engine operations in visual and instrument environments.
- Low Traffic Environment Outside of Class B Airspace
LGC’s location outside of Atlanta’s busy Class B airspace means fewer delays and less radio congestion, allowing students to maximize flight time and focus on training without unnecessary interruptions.
- Consistently Favorable Weather
Over 300 days of VFR (Visual Flight Rules) compatible weather annually provide Paragon students with consistent training opportunities, reducing downtime and helping them earn their CMEL rating efficiently.
