Transition from Military Aviation to Commercial PilotThe service that you provide in the military builds character and professional skills. We offer courses for military pilots of all stripes.

The Transition from Military to Civilian Pilot

Learn New Regulations and Procedural Guidelines

Adapting to and adopting the regulations and procedures required of commercial pilots will be critical to success.

  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) – establishes standards and guidance for pilot licensing, aircraft upkeep, and air traffic control;
  • Airspace – air traffic control and communication guidelines
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) – airlines establish and implement their own rules.

Earn Civilian Licenses

Military experiences may give you the knowledge required, but you’ll still need to earn the necessary licenses to operate in the civilian sector as a professional.

The FAA will allow you to count military flight hours toward those required for civilian licenses, so you’re likely well on completing many requirements. Then, you’ll need to come to Paragon Flight or another flight school to participate in transition training and prepare for the FAA exams for your commercial license and ATP certification.

Begin Working

Before you snag your dream job at a major airline, you may have to put in some time as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), a cargo transport pilot, or a regional airline pilot. Gaining experience in the civilian sector allows you to build up your resume and accrue the flight hours needed to apply with a major airline.

Participate in the Rotary Wing to Fixed Wing Transition Training Program

Paragon Flight provides a straightforward Rotor Transition Program (RTP). This Part 141-authorized course allows helicopter pilots to transition to single-engine and multi-engine commercial licensing in fewer than two months. Being VA-approved, this program is financially friendly for veterans transitioning to the civilian sector. We also have partnerships with airlines, providing program graduates a leg up with airlines like Go Jet, Sky West, and Mesa Airlines.
