What to Expect from Your First Flight Training Session?
Introduction: It’s important to understand the ins and outs of flying before you ever step foot in the aircraft, so your flight training will begin outside the cockpit. You can generally expect your first lesson to focus on the basics of aerodynamics, pre-flight procedures, and post-flight procedures. What are the four forces of flight? What is lift and how is it generated? The discussion is designed to ensure that you have the fundamental knowledge to understand what it means to fly.
Pre-flight: You’ll then get into the right seat of one of our exceptionally safe and well-maintained Cessna 172 Skyhawks, and put on your headphones to hear what the instructor is saying and air traffic control instructions. You’ll learn about checklists, pre-flight inspections, and starting procedures for the aircraft. While the aircraft is running, your instructor will walk you through the required pre-taxi procedures and will show you how to maneuver the aircraft on the ground.
Flight: When cleared for take-off, you and the instructor will roll the aircraft out onto the runway and line it up on the centerline looking down the length of the runway. Your instructor will apply power and take off down the runway. Upon reaching a safe altitude, the instructor may let you take over the controls for a bit to get a feel for the aircraft, while he or she explains how to level off the aircraft and increase the airspeed. Then it will be time to return home, and you’ll get to see what it is like to land an aircraft. Your actual flight time may be only about 45 minutes.
Post-flight: Once you’re back on the ground, you’ll return to the classroom for a post-flight de-briefing. Your instructor will give you feedback about your flight and his or her assessment of how you completed the tasks during the flight. This is the ideal time to ask your instructor any questions you may have about your flight.
Earning your private pilot license is a rewarding experience. Whether or not you are considering aviation as a career, you will want to find the best school to give yourself the best chance at success. Contact Paragon Flight today at (239) 274-3170 to get started.
